Why Choose Marbay Counseling
1. What’s the difference between a psychological and psychoeducational assessment?
A psychological assessment explores emotional and behavioral functioning, while a psychoeducational assessment focuses on learning, attention, and cognitive abilities. Many clients benefit from a combined approach.
2. How long does testing take?
Assessments vary by concern. On average, they might take 2–6 hours of testing plus a follow-up session for feedback and recommendations.
3. Can testing be done online?
Yes. We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant online testing for many evaluations, especially ADHD and emotional functioning.
4. Will my insurance cover the evaluation?
Coverage varies by plan. We accept common insurances. Medical insurances reimburse for medically-necessary tests for diagnostic or treatment purposes. For this reason, some clients might need to cover some of the costs that are not covered by the insurance. Your fees will be clearly stated when you schedule an appointment so that there are no surprises. We also provide a detailed receipt for reimbursement in case you are using Out of Network benefits.
5. Do you provide school accommodation recommendations after testing?
Absolutely. We include documentation and recommendations to help you obtain 504 Plans, IEPs, college, entrance or licensure exams, or workplace accommodations when appropriate.
6. What if I’m not sure which test I need?
That’s okay! During your consultation, we’ll help determine the right type of assessment for your situation — no need to decide ahead of time.
7. What happens with the label if a diagnosis is given? Am I obligated to give my child medication?
Some parents assume that once testing is done, the diagnosis becomes part of a permanent record, but that is not true. Your child’s evaluation report is private and confidential.
You decide who receives it.
You choose whether to share it with the school or keep it for your own understanding.
If you pay privately, insurance companies do not receive any report or diagnosis.
If you use insurance, the diagnostic code appears only on your insurance claim—just like any other medical visit. It is not shared with schools or employers. Any sharing of information requires your written consent, except in the cases of mandated reporting.
